Daigoji / Kyoto – Giant mochi lifting contest
Godai-Rikison Nino-e / 23rd February
This was mind blowingly bonkers and it all took place on the grounds of the beautiful Daigo temple. Men and women competed to lift huge mochi (rice cakes). Rules are simple. The person who holds the cake for the longest time wins and the prize is a big piece of mochi. Wonderful.
