Koenji Cray Fishing

Sanshi No More Park (Koenji Higashi)

A few weeks ago I went for a walk around some of the quieter places in Koenji.  I was looking for a swimming pool at the time but wandered into a man made park (Sanshi No Mori Park)  instead where there was lots of kids and adults with home made rods and little buckets fishing for craw fish (similar to tiny lobsters) in a large pond.  They don’t eat them, they just compete to see who can catch the most or maybe who can catch the King of the Pond!  It does not look easy as the cray fish usually fall off on their way off.  I guess they realise it’s all very unnatural to be hanging from a string! It looks like loads of fun actually and it really reminded me of days when I used to do stupid things like make rafts, zip lines and make tree houses… I wish I was a kid again.  I will be trying this in the coming weeks needless to say.

How to make a rod:  Strong Twig, string, small rubber type thing for the crab to grab onto. Easy!

This park is right opposite the Higashi Koenji Maranouchi line station exit beside the dusty soccer area.

oh ah oh.. ah b***** it got away.
